PregnaDigit

Development of a Remote Digital Care System for Accessible, Inclusive and Sustainable Pregnancy Care.

Medical pregnancy care is facing issues of accessibility, capacity, affordability and sustainability. PregnaDigit, aims a solid start for newborns, by delivering a ‘system solution’ for remote digital pregnancy care that addresses the challenges. Our consortium unites relevant scientists, innovators, obstetric healthcare professionals (OHP), MedTech companies, citizens and stakeholders to jointly develop and test the system solution.

Project description

The PregnaDigit system solution facilitates large-scale digital transformation of pregnancy care contributing to more sustainable, affordable and resilient care systems and tackling current pressure on hospital and OHP capacity and financial resources. Importantly, the impact on health inequity is particularly relevant in care of the unborn child. Maternal health and socio-economic environment are strong determinants of foetal growth and development, affecting the newborn’s health as well as subsequent future wellbeing, health and societal success.

In the past decade the consortium partners have performed pioneering research of remote digital pregnancy care point solutions for the monitoring of pregnancy complications. The studies, such as HoTel and SAFE@HOME, showed promising results for feasibility, safety, clinical and cost-effectiveness, and user experiences. Based on these results we will start industrial and experimental research and design care paths and solutions for health inequities, costing and a FAIR data infrastructure with prediction models. In the long-term, a significant annual Dutch healthcare expenditure reduction is expected due to replacement of hospital admission days by remote digital pregnancy care. Replacement of outpatient visits will contribute further to cost reduction.

By delivering a ‘system solution’ for remote digital pregnancy care we will contribute to more resilient, affordable, equitable and sustainable medical pregnancy care. This novel concept comprises the knowledge and methodologies MedTech industry and healthcare need for large-scale market entrance.
